22/2/08 AIS helps Quinn prepare for first event

First event to kick off the year

Coffs Harbours Nathan Quinn has arrived back in Coffs harbour from the first camp held at the AIS in Canberra, just in time for this weekends Coffs Harbour Rallysprint.

The first camp held over 3 days which is supported by the Australian Sports Commission, provides ten deserving motor sport competitors with the opportunity to study and train alongside with some of the biggest names in the Australian and international sporting arena.

The group was able to dine in the AIS dining hall for the duration of their stay and lectures on nutrition enabled the squad to understand the importance of what they eat prior to, during and post event.

Each driver underwent a one-on-one psychology session with a leading sports psychologist and the drivers also had one-on-one physiological testing with some of the leading sports medicine scientists in the world. These tests allowed the participants to manage and monitor their weight, strength and fitness over the duration of the camp.

Importantly for Nathan, this weekend allows him an opportunity to determine if the skills and techniques he has learned can be applied in a practical manner during competition.

“I haven’t driven the car since last November really, when I won the last sprint here, and I’m hoping that some of the tools I learned from the AIS will help me settle my nervousness and anxiety. I can’t wait to get in and drive again, but during the off season you start to wonder wether you’re any good, and how you actually do it, and your mind does some pretty awful things to me. I’m hoping that the camp will allow me to take up where I left off last year, winning, making it 3 wins in a row for our crew!”

The weekend also sees another milestone with yet another new CoDriver replacing last years Wayne Parker. “Nathan is really improving with every outing he has” says sponsor and backer Sean Broadbent from Allied Air Conditioning. “ it’s important that we get someone with the same goals an determination as Nathan, so we have the services of experienced co driver Matt Sossimenko from Sydney. He is already highly successful but he has big boots to fill as Nathan and Wayne won the last two events in a row”

The rally sprint starts on Saturday at 10.00am from the lower bucca school on Bucca Road. Spectators can see the action from “store” forest road within easy walking distance of the start.
