Coffs rallysprint 2008
Driving his Mitsubishi Evolution 5 lancer, Coffs Harbour rally ace Nathan Quinn won the Coffs harbour rally sprint at the weekend held n the forests in Bucca.
Spectators witnessed the young gun win all 6 stages with spectacular driving control and take victory by nearly 3 minutes. With new co river Matt Sosimenko, the crew have now won the last 3 events and 26 special stages in a row. “we had a trouble free run” said Nathan. “it was really good to get back behind the wheel after a 2 month break and prepare ourselves for the season ahead. For us, there is no better way to open up a new year and I can’t wait to get into the ARC”.
Ecstatic with the result, sponsor Sean Broadbent has strengthened his support of Nathan and is looking forward to this year. “3 wins in a row is fantastic for the team and us at Allied Air conditioning as sponsors. We knew straight away that Nathan had something special and we have given him the chance to show it, we are very proud of him and the crew. He has a big program this year with several ARC rounds and potentially an overseas rally, so it’s great to get the first one for the year out of the way with no problems, and no big bills!.”
Returning from the AIS only days before, Quinn drew on the arsenal of tools taught to him in maintaining a massive lead. “Generally after taking such a lead early in an event he might have looked to conserve and back off” said dad and team manager Martin. “But Nathan is still very new in this sport so every time we go out it needs to be valuable learning for him and the crew and this time he was able to maintain his concentration and improve over each special stage. Basically we’ve always said to him there is no point in practicing to drive slow, and with the AIS, he was able to treat it just like a round of the ARC and make PB’s all day”
With the car barely needing a wash, the crew will ready for the first round of the State Championship series at Port Macquarie in a few weeks. “unfortunately this is a blind rally not a pace noted rally which is the system used in the ARC” said Nathan. “I will be taking a different approach for this one, and that will be to just get through in one piece and conserve the car for the Asia Pacific Championship in Canberra. When asked if we’ll see 4 wins in a row at Port “I’ll be up against some really fast locals that have rallied those forests for 20 years. I’ve been there twice in the RX2, it would be something though wouldn’t it!”
